A Blog About...Well, Nothing Really

A blog about...well, nothing really

Hello everyone. Been a while since I've blogged.  So long in fact, I can’t remember when the last time was.

I'm not really a prolific blogger, which is fine by me, and probably by you too, lol. There are many awesome blogs and bloggers out there, but ain’t one of them—and yes, I said ain’t, lol.

Why am I blogging today? Glad you asked me that question. And the answer is, I don’t know. Oh, BS. I’m blogging today because I have something to say. The real question is, do you want to read it, lol? Ah, sure ya do. You never know what tomfoolery may come out of my mouth. Like this next tidbit I’m going to waste your precious time telling you.

As some of you may know, I’ve been working full time as a painter with my husband. The trades are a male dominated profession for sure. One of the drawbacks to being a woman on the job site is the porta-potty—not sure of the spelling, buy I’m sure ya get the jist of what I mean.  I detest those temporary bathrooms—outhouses. I can’t even step in them. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume, full of waste particles. LOL, a little Lord of the Rings humor.

(This is not the type of painting I'm doing)

(Or this)

(Or even this)

So, what’s a woman to do? I head to the nearest restaurant. Public toilets and I aren’t on much friendlier terms, but I have to pick the lesser of two evils or my bladder may burst. And besides, I hover like a boss.

I can fit in with the guys at work pretty well. I can handle their jokes about women and sex, but I can’t use the porta-potty, or even breathe the foul air. Forget it, man. Ain’t happening.

Now that I’m working outside of the home, what does this mean for my writing? Well...I’m not getting much of that done lately. Sad but true. Who knows? You all may be saying, Thank God. LOL, well don’t get too excited. I will be back! I will write another book! See if you can stop me.

Actually, I had thought of leaving writing behind. Life got in the way, and I can’t ignore it anymore. Have to step up to the plate and take care of a few things—like helping keep the family biz afloat. LOL, yeah, like whether or not the biz stays afloat really rests on my shoulders. Hehehehe, makes me feel good thinking it does.

But after a massively stressful day yesterday at work, I did a little more soul searching. I’m not okay with hacking writing out of my life. I like it—it makes me happy.  So you know what? I decided there will be room enough in my life for work and my writing. I hope you all are as thrilled with this news as I am.

So, looks like book #4 in the Prophecy series is back on. I’ve even got the black moment almost figured out. See? Painting and writing can fit into my life. I do a lot of thinking and book plotting while I’m slapping paint on the walls.

I’ve even come up with a title for the next book. Prophecy’s Language.

LOL, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking: what a weird title. But once you read the story, you’ll see it actually fits perfect.

Well, that’s my big spiel for the day, month, maybe even year.

Rock on, and read books. And remember, books are food for the brain.  Do a brain good. Read a book.

Oh, and I would like to give a shout-out to my friend—who just so happens to be one heck of a talented author—Lisa Kumar. Thanks for your friendship and support—and for letting me rant your ear off on occasion.

Thatta Girl! Never give up writing...First of all, you will come to realize...You can't leave it. Once writing get's into your soul, you need it to keep you happy and sane. I have learned in 23 books, I don't do it for sales, fame,or a pat on the back. I do it for me and the readers. A bond that feels like no other.

Oh my God, don't even come anywhere close to uttering 'I'm not writing anymore'. What the--you can't DO that to us!

Find balance, or you'll make me cry.

Rock on! And what Allie said. Period.

Ditto to what Allie said! Fun post :)

AHHHHHH, do you all know how happy I am that I blogged today and bared my soul, lol?
Thank you, ladies. In a matter of seconds, you have renewed my faith in keeping on, keeping on. I will find a balance, or die trying.
And Leanore, you're right. I don't write for the fame, the money, etc, etc. I have to remember I write because I like it, and it fills a void in my life--plus, I have stories I want people to read, lol.

Thanks so much for taking time away from your lives to read my ramblings.

I know you can never give up writing. Uh yeah and what Allie said. You're trolling awesome! PS: every weekend growing up the only place to do my 'business' was the outhouse. LOLOLOLOL Now. Port-a-potty? I am right there with you on that subject. . .

Today I feel light as air, hehehehe. Well, that could be due to the amount of coffee I've had and the clean products I'm using, lol. But no, this light feeling is because I have decided my writing is not something I can cut from my life. I can cut back on my sugar intake, but definitely not my writing. I've worked too damn hard.

And Diana...I have a total fear of falling into an outhouse....

Ahhh, just the thought....

No stopping! We need more of your yummy fanged boys. I love your books and would miss you!
(and yea, so no-go on the portapotties! Those are just nasty!

When I'm hanging off the ledge, Wicked Leanore reminds me it's not about the fame or money. It's about saving money - the money I'd spend sitting in a therapist's office if I couldn't write. You have fans (like me) who can't wait to read your next book. I hope you never stop writing. NEVER.

I think I had a moment of feeling sorry for myself. But really, I've got it pretty good. I've had years at home to write. Now I just have to work out a balance.

Brenda said...

LOL, and Aine? I fret about the damn port-a-potty all day. The dang thing haunts me!
I almost can hear it say: Come in. I'm clean and fresh, and smell like a field of flowers. LOL, but I know better. I know what's down in that hole!

LOL Brenda face your fear with a sword and a dagger. I wonder if maggots can grow in port-a-potty sludge. . . bwahahahahaha

Brenda said...

LOLOL, Diana. I'm afraid a dagger won't work against my outhouse fears. And as for the maggots...I'm sure it is a fly breeding ground in there.

Toni Kelly said...

LOl, I think you're probably better at blogging than you think. What a transition from outhouses to writing?! Thanks for the fun read.

Brenda said...

LOL, Toni. Thank you. I really need to try getting back in the blogging world--even if I blog once every couple of weeks.

Awesome paintings - I'm allergic to art or maybe it's allergic to me :)
Nice post. Excited to read your new book.

I feel your pain about the full time job and keeping the money coming in. It's been a tough year this past year and I only had one book release and one re-release. I'm finally working on three others (yep, juggling three books at once) but I know that we would be sad without your writing and books. Keep at it.

As far as the port a potty, I hear you! No way! And you're right...the painting time is a great time for brainstorming. Now how to write down ideas while painting!

Daryl Devoré said...

Oh there was so no way you were stopping writing. I'd have been on a plane out to BC, tie you to your laptop and pointed a mean finger at you and said WRITE!

Jenna said...

It's a good thing I read on, because when you said you were not going to write any more I almost stopped to write you a scathing email telling you you absolutely could NOT quit! Glad to know you came to your senses. :) But I also absolutely know how difficult it is to juggle full-time work and writing. Nightmarish at times. But hey, if the painting is kind of solitary, get a recorder you can talk into and talk your books into it, then all you have to do is transcribe when you get home. Wish I could do that, but the kids in the classroom might get a different education than intended. LOL
Hang in there, Brenda! We can't do without you and your vampires!

Brenda said...

Aw, you all make me so happy. Thank you so much for coming by--supporting me--and helping me see that I don't have to give up anything. I only need to learn how to balance my time.

Lisa Kumar said...

I'm so ecstatic you're not giving up writing! Such talent should never go to waste--and I truly mean that.

I told you painting is the perfect time to plot out novels;) Glad you agree! I was so sad you were going to quit, but I couldn't put my sadness on you. I knew you had enough RL stuff to deal with and had to do what you felt was right.

But it's awesome you rediscovered that writing makes you happy. Remember, write for yourself! I think when we become overly concerned about reviews and sales, we lose some, if not most, of our spark for writing.

You may not write as much as you could before, but I have the feeling you'll make those precious minutes count more than you ever did before.

And thanks for the shoutout! You're beyond sweet and one of my best friends:)

Brenda said...

Lisa, my writing time will be cut shorter, but that means I will have to make my writing time count, lol. While I'm writing, I have to stay off fb.

Your friendship and support really helped me put things into perspective. Thank you!
