Hello. Been quite some time since last I blogged. I have no excuse for being absent so long...well except for the fact I have been hard at work writing book #3 in the Prophecy series. But more on that later.

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Brenda and I write paranormal romance.

I read my first paranormal years ago. I think it was roughly twelve, thirteen years ago. I can’t remember the title of the book, but the hero was a vampire rock star. And man, oh man, I was hooked from there. I searched the local bookstore for other books under this new genre: paranormal romance. It was like a new world was opened up for me and I loved it. My favorite paranormal romance author is J.R Ward. She’s the freaking BOMB!

So, moving on. I was tagged by the awesomely talented, Natasza Waters to participate in the MWP blog tour. I’m to answer four questions about my writing process. I thought, hey, why not? Sounds like fun. So here I am, talking to you all about how I write.

I met Natasza Waters last summer through a mutual friend, Tonya Smalley. Both of these fantastic ladies review for InD’Tale Magazine. I had heard about Natasza’s book, Code Name: Ghost, through the facebook grapevine. Natasza writes military romance. Now as some of you may know, I’m a lover of paranormal romances, but decided to give her book a try. Step out of my comfort genre, lol. And holy moly, I’m so glad I did. I sped through her first book, then waited on pins and needles for the second in the Warrior’s Challenge series, Code Name: Kayla’s Fire. Ooooh, baby, this book was sick—in a good way! I loved it. So, let’s get started on the four question.

Question 1

WHAT AM I WORKING ON:

 For the last few months I have been furiously—well, maybe not furiously—working on book #3 in the Prophecy series. Wait, didn’t I say this already? Yeah I did, above. Told ya it has been a long time since I’ve blogged, lol. *takes a sip of coffee.* Ahhhh, much better. So, where was I? Right, furiously writing book #3. This book is called Prophecy’s Power. Nice title, huh? Book #1 in the series is called Love’s Prophecy. Book #2 is called Prophecy’s Child. Do you see a pattern here? All the titles are two words. Oh, and they all have prophecy in them. Huh, I just noticed that. LOL, that was just a joke. I’m really not that weird. Well....lol. Prophecy’s Power is to be released in July 2014.

Question 2

HOW DOES MY WORK DIFFER FROM OTHERS OF ITS GENRE:

My work differs from other paranormal romances in many ways, but I think the biggest way it differs is the history behind vampires and why they exist. Before I started writing Love’s Prophecy, I had the history behind my vampires all mapped out. I wanted a plausible reason—one that could actually be true—for why vampires roam the earth. Another difference is my vampires are not... Not sure what word I’m looking for. Let’s go with typical. And what I mean by typical is the well-known legends surrounding vampires: they are dead, immortal, drink a human dry. Son’s of Lucifer, etc, etc. My vampires were created by an angel. They were exactly like humans at one time, but The Creator gave them long life, awesome healing abilities, plus a few more tricks so they could fight the demons sent to earth by Lucifer to destroy humans and take the earth back for himself. I have also created a cool reason for why vampires drink human blood, but I won’t post it here. LOL, don’t want to give away all my secrets.

Question 3

WHY DO I WRITE WHAT I WRITE?

Simple. Because I freaking love vampires.

Question 4

HOW DOES MY WRITING PROCESS WORK.

Hmmm, this question is hard to answer. I don’t know how my writing process works, it just does, lol. I’ll try to explain it as best I can. My writing process is not really a process. Well, I guess it is. I’m what I call a plotsner. This is a combination of a plotter and a pantser. For those of you who don’t know what these terms mean, I’ll explain. A plotter is a writer who plots out his/her story before he/she writes. A panster is a writer who has an idea for story, a couple of characters rattling around in his/her head, but doesn’t plot the story out first. This type of writer allows the story to develop as he/she writers. I will have an idea for the story—I know how it starts and ends with a few ideas for the middle. I know my characters and some of their backstory before I begin. The holes fill in as I write. I’m also not a fast writer, and the reason for that is because I have to write in order and I can’t move on to the next chapter until I am completely satisfied with the last one. So that means I can spend days and days on one chapter, trying to get it right. Some writers will skip scenes, simply inserting a quick note like this: Insert fight scene here* and then come back to it later. LOL, I wish I could do that, but I can’t. I also can’t force myself to write. If I’m not feeling it, then I don’t write because all I’m doing is wasting my time. I end up deleting all the crap—and it always is crap—later. So, there ya have it. That’s me and my writing process in a nutshell. Not very glamorous, but hey.

The author I’m tagging is one of the most talented authors I have had the good fortune to meet. We have become wonderful friends, which thrills me to no end because I have learned so much from her vast store of knowledge.
